Game developer Riot Games recently revealed a new development in their highly anticipated League of Legends-themed fighting game, formerly known as 'Project L'. It now officially goes by its new name, 2XKO, marking a significant milestone in the game's progression.
Radiant Entertainment's Tom Cannon initially announced the game, then known as Project L, at EVO 2019. The game was introduced as a collaborative project with Riot. Later during Riot's League of Legends 10th anniversary event, Project L was formally introduced to the masses.
Multiple Ventures by Riot Games
Renamed 2XKO, the fighting game is just one of the many new ventures Riot is working on. These include a card game called Legends of Runeterra, the first-person shooter game Valorant, and the Netflix series Arcane. Riot's new venture into the fighting game genre might be untested territory for the company, but League of Legends fans will find the game's content familiar.
Champion-Based Characters
The game's list of characters borrows heavily from the world of League of Legends, featuring recognizable Champions like Ahri, Darius, Jinx, and Yasuo. With over 100 Champions currently in the League of Legends game, the final roster for 2XKO is still a mystery. As the game's development continues, fans eagerly anticipate which other Champions will be included in the final release.
After being discreetly introduced as Project L a few years ago, the evolving development of Riot's fighting game has garnered significant attention. Coinciding with a surge in popularity for fighting games such as Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6, it was an opportune time for Riot to unveil Project L.
2XKO: A New Name for Project L
The Project L fighting game now officially bears the name 2XKO. The new designation took many by surprise but Riot Games confirmed the name should be pronounced exactly as it reads. The game's latest announcement also included an exciting preview of some gameplay, though the revealed characters aren't new to those who've been keeping tabs on the game's development.
With the new name also came news of the game's expected launch date. Though not definitive, Riot Games projects that players will be able to start their first matches in 2XKO in the year 2025. There is, however, a rumor of possible play-on-playtests being made available through an early beta version scheduled for late 2024.
Final Thoughts on 2XKO
Regardless of when it will actually launch, the reveal of 2XKO is a significant step forward in its development. Whether you're a casual gamer or a League of Legends superfan, this is certainly something to look forward to in the near future!
