For the Worlds 2023 iteration, Riot has put into action a new in-game battle pass. This battle pass leads players towards an array of cosmetics – but only if they have their game faces on, ready to complete the tough challenges set by Riot. Though optional, purchasing a battle pass can prove beneficial for players, as it yields additional rewards such as tokens, orbs, and various skins.
Progressing through the tiers of the battle pass can be a demanding task. To offset the tedium, and to ensure players can move up more swiftly on the reward ladder, Riot has incorporated a series of missions that can be completed to accumulate levels and rewards. However, this year’s missions have become a source of contention for players, many of whom have commented on receiving relatively less tokens compared to the previous year.
This reduction in rewards has resulted in a flurry of frustrated comments and remarks from the dedicated League of Legends players.
A quick comparison of the tokens awarded across the years
The reduction in rewards was first noticed and duly calculated by an observant player. According to him, this year’s reward in experience points is lesser by a whopping 2400 compared to the last year, which translates to around 120 less tokens.
One player, feeling cheated, sarcastically expressed their disappointment.
"I’m surprised that Riot would reduce rewards for the battle pass after consistently doing the same for every previous pass! I wonder when we’ll reach the point where we can only afford a single orb through the pass track," stated the exasperated player.
Others, choosing to dismiss the seeming injustice, claimed that this twist of events wouldn’t impact them as they no longer play League of Legends. "I’ve stopped playing this game, kindly refrain from tagging me here," one such player responded.
Longer duration of the event: A potential respite
Some players noted that despite the reduction in rewards per mission, this year’s event is lasting much longer than those hosted in previous years. Nonetheless, even this piece of information failed to pacify infuriated players, as they will still need to push themselves harder in the game to earn those scarce rewards.
