Prior to the World Series finals, several Warzone professionals and streamers have raised their voices against the Signal 50 sniper rifle. They argue that the weapon could potentially jeopardize both gameplay and viewer experience, with $600k at stake.

Signal 50 Dominating the In-Game 'Meta'

Over the past few months, the Signal 50 sniper rifle has been a major point of contention among professional Warzone players, dominating the in-game 'meta' despite numerous nerfs. Raven Software, the game’s developers, chose not to further nerf the rifle in the Season 5 update in August. This decision was based on their data assessment that the performance of the Signal 50 was within normal range.

However, there is an acknowledged gap between weapons usage among casual players and professionals. This discrepancy could prove significant at the forthcoming WSOW finals on September 16. Some competitors have spoken out just days before the event to express their dissatisfaction with the Signal 50 and to request an outright ban on the weapon.

'The Signal 50 has got to go or have a 1 sniper limit,' stated professional player TheTacticalBrit. Drawing comparisons with the Gorenko meta that had a significant impact on professional play during the Caldera World Series finals.

Another professional player, Intechs, argued that the 'Signal 50 is going to ruin the experience for viewers as well as the players.' He described the situation as 'pretty lame'.

Also contributing to this discourse was the game’s highest earner and most successful player, Thomas ‘Tommey’ Trewren. He pointed out that while 'some players and teams enjoy this,' the lack of movement in the game due to the dominance of the Signal 50 was 'just not fun'.

Given the concerns being raised by some of the game's top players, it remains to be seen whether the World Series organizers will ban the use of Signal 50. However, with the event closing in, time for such a decision is running short.
