Popular Warzone participant, Metaphor, has given reassurances to gamers that sniper rifles will regain their importance in the upcoming Modern Warfare 3, due to the introduction of new weapon profiles.
Game developers, Infinity Ward, affirmed that the progression of MW2 weapons, operator skins, and even weapon blueprints will make a transition into Modern Warfare 3. This will occur courtesy of the Carry Forward program, a welcome benefit that enables players to bring over their previously earned and levelled-up weapons and attachments.
Contrary to these positives, the content creator for Warzone, identified as WhosImmortal, incorporated a differing view. He suggested that weapons from MW2 may not hold the same effectiveness in MW3. The reason, he stated, will be a deliberate development tactic to draw gamers towards the new weaponry set to be introduced in the latest iteration.
This claim met with a counter from streamer Metaphor, who defended the potential of MW2 weapons, presenting an argument for their viability in MW3.
Understanding the Viability of MW2 Weapons in MW3
Metaphor, after participating in Warzone at the COD Next event, confirmed the improvement of sniper rifle performance in MW3. Sniper rifles will reportedly regain their ability to accomplish one-shot kills. However, similar to Caldera, a restriction will control the range within which a one-shot kill can be achieved.
Dwellers of WZ2 will remember the solitary power of the Victus XMR, FJX Imperium, and MCPR-300, bestowed with the capability of a one-shot kill using high-velocity ammunition. But other sniper rifles gradually lost their favor among Warzone players, as they lacked the one-shot kill capability.
Metaphor shows optimism regarding the potential of MW2 sniper rifles. He believes the SP-X 80 and LA-B 330, among others, have a “really good chance” of getting enhanced. They will now reportedly be transformed into one-shot kill weapons in the Warzone version of MW3.
New Weapon Profiles in MW3
Backing up his claim, Metaphor noted the information shared by JGOD - an announcement from Sledgehammer Games. They stated the introduction of a “completely new weapon profile” that can be assigned to these guns, to change their profiles aligning with MW3 standards.
Metaphor is not entirely clear as to what this exactly means but carries high hopes that this profile transformation may help weapons such as the SPX to act quicker.
It was challenging to denote any solid evidence during the MW3 beta testing stage, mainly because MW2 weapons were not available to test. The true change in this dynamic and the evident performance difference can only be expected to reveal itself when Modern Warfare 3’s Warzone expansion launches within the year.
