Big changes could be coming to the Call of Duty League and its ranked map rotation. A recent buzz in the gaming community suggests that a newer map could be potentially added into the rotation of play, based on its popularity amongst players and fans.
The Modern Warfare 2 ( MW2) maps, first introduced in 2009, have always been considered as some of the all-time best in Call of Duty's history. Despite their reputation, however, these maps are often played out differently in the current-day movement system, leading to a mixed reception from players.
Amongst these MW2 maps, Terminal has generally been considered a favorite. This map, due to its unique quirks and characteristics, had been celebrated as one of the best COD maps of all time. However, recently, a sizeable number of players have described it as 'campy', and there has been a growing demand for it to be erased from the map pool entirely.
The professional players often grapple with the limitation of a condensed map pool. This problem may soon be resolved, especially if the lobbying for a new map addition proves successful.
Rio: The Next Addition?
Rio originated as one of the 6v6 maps introduced in Modern Warfare 3 as part of the Season 1 Reloaded update. Despite its existence, it did not receive much attention, largely because professional players were more immersed in Major 1 papers and the map rotation it offered.
However, during the recent break between Major tournaments, players have had an opportunity to explore gameplay on the new patch, which presented different spawns and Hardpoint rotations. Consequently, some have begun seriously tinkering with Rio.
Brian Baroska, the coach for Carolina Royal Ravens, has been vocal about his desire to see Rio Hardpoint replace Terminal in the map pool. One of his players, Isaiah Gwinn, has also declared this map to be 'a bang out.'
Such sentiments have been echoed by other Royal Ravens players. They have been discussing the potential addition of Rio to the map pool, indicating that this change could already be in progress. When asked about the mapping that would be eliminated, the consensus amongst the players seemed to be that instead of map replacement, Rio would simply be added to the pool.
Even though no official confirmation has been given by the Call of Duty League or ranked developers Treyarch, many players are still hoping for Rio to make its debut in the pool. The desire for fresh content is echoed by fans as well. Therefore, by the time the qualifiers for Major 2 begin on February 16, the landscape of professional-level gameplay might have changed considerably.
Rio, the new map, is not displacing any existing maps in the pool. It is being added to the lineup. This circulation has been confirmed by Carolina Royal Ravens and its coaching staff.
While fans and players eagerly wait for the official announcement, the idea of a new map inclusion has piqued their interest and excitement. This expected addition is predicted to break the monotony and introduce some fresh content for players.
The response to this anticipated change would significantly depend on the on-ground execution and player experience. While the idea of map addition sounds appealing, its successful implementation at a professional level would be the ultimate test.
Until an official announcement is made, fans and pros can only anticipate and prepare for the expected changes. With Major 2 qualifiers around the corner, the timing of this announcement carries immense significance for the competitive Call Of Duty ecosystem.
Whatever decision the League takes, the COD competitive scene is expected to evolve and adapt, keeping the matches fresh and exciting for players and viewers alike. The addition of Rio to the pool, if confirmed, would significantly shape the gaming landscape in the upcoming Major 2 qualifiers.
