Harder Challenges in the Latest Baldur's Gate 3 Patch

Changes to puzzles in the Gauntlet of Shar in Baldur's Gate 3 has resulted in increased difficulty levels for players in the latest released patch.

Gaming enthusiasts can no longer breeze through a particular puzzle of Baldur's Gate 3. Shar, a character in the game, seems to be finally getting her revenge. What makes this update noteworthy is that it has made a puzzle notably more challenging for the players.

The Gauntlet of Shar of Baldur’s Gate 3 presents a unique challenge in the form of a puzzle. It requires players to cross an expanse situated above a void. Shar, being the goddess of darkness, this puzzle plays well with her divine attributes as the path across the pit only becomes visible in darkness.

There has been a recent update to Baldur’s Gate 3. Many users have noticed a noticeable spike in the difficulty of the Gauntlet of Shar. A discussion about the increased difficulty also started on a gaming platform online, where concerned users attempted to confirm if others shared the same observations.

Harder Challenges in the Latest Baldur

A user noted that he found the puzzle to be much harder compared to what it used to be. According to him, the path was easily visible during his initial couple of playthroughs. However, in the recent attempts, he struggled to discern the path, leading his character to repeatedly fall and perish.

Another user suggested a potential way to tackle the heightened puzzle difficulty. He mentioned that carrying any source of light, such as Lathander’s Light or any gear/spell that casts light, should be avoided. This is because the pathway is only visible when the surroundings are completely bereft of light.

He further suggested a strategy involving Karlach, another character. If the player possesses the required ingredients for potions or elixirs like the potion of jumping or an elixir of strength, they could use them on Karlach. Utilizing these, she could be made to jump back to the starting point or towards the exit, given they are in her range.

An alternate user found the puzzle to be unpredictable and tricky. He managed to easily bypass the challenging part of the puzzle using a potion of glorious vaulting in one of his playthroughs. However, in his other attempts, the same trick turned out to be futile.

Yet another player said he always flew across the puzzle, but not in turn-based mode. He wasn't sure if that could be the reason for the other player's difficulty. Someone else also noted an increase in the annoyance factor of the game, concluding that the puzzle indeed seemed harder than before.

There are speculations that perhaps the game developers have intentionally made the rules around the Gauntlet of Shar tighter over time. Alternatively, it could be seen as an unpredictable game behavior, with different effects on different players.

This ambiguity conflates the game's appeal but could also lead to diminishing player interest due to increased difficulty in progression. From a game design perspective, however, this increased cap of difficulty could very well be a planned move.
