Baldur’s Gate 3 - An Adventure Moving to PS5
Baldur’s Gate 3, an explosive hit, has quickly ascended the ranks to become one of the most successful PC launches in history. Not long now, the game is anticipated to be released on PS5, bringing the well-received adventure to a larger audience.
A word from the Director
In a recent video interview published on the Dungeons & Dragons YouTube channel, Baldur’s Gate 3 Director Swen Vincke announced that after the console launch, his work on the game is essentially complete. While his team will continue to handle post-release patches like the recent fix to Karlach’s ending, Vincke will be focused on something completely different. Although Vincke kept tight-lipped about specifics, it is clear he has a new game in the pipeline.
What's next for Swen Vincke
Swen Vincke's next project was brought up in the interview by Todd Kenreck when he asked Vincke about his current sources of inspiration. In a cryptic response, Vincke simply stated that it involved his next game and would not elaborate further. Vincke explained that now that the console editions of Baldur’s Gate 3 were shipping, he would step back from the game. He said, 'The PS5 version is shipping, we’ve just uploaded it, so I’m done. I’m going to move on to the next game.'
Although he's finished with Baldur’s Gate 3, Vincke clarified that it doesn't mean the game's development will cease. He reiterated that further game enhancements will be led by his team in response to user feedback. Vincke has been contemplating about his next game for quite some time. After realizing the new game's development will soon commence, he feels it's about time he takes a much-needed break.
Speculations of a new game
The anticipation for a new project from Larian Studios is building up. When probed about the nature of the upcoming game, Vincke expressed his love for both fantasy and sci-fi genres but also mentioned that he is selective when it comes to his entertainment choices. This has led to speculation about whether the next title might involve a space theme. Nonetheless, fans are eager to see Vincke's unique blend of quality material. Keeping Baldur’s Gate 3's six-year development period in mind, the succeeding title may still have some way to go.
