A New Strategy Emerges in Baldur’s Gate 3
A new strategy has been uncovered by a player of the popular role-play game, Baldur’s Gate 3, that seemingly enables the recruitment of character Minthara by a more 'innocent' route. Some critics, however, continue to deem the practice as morally questionable.
The Traditional Route
Players traditionally have to engage in an intense assault against the Tieflings and Druids located in Druid Grove in order for Minthara to join their team. As a consequence, the main character embarks down an evil path that will turn away other potential companions. This poses a substantial problem for players who wish to pursue the heroic path, especially for those interested in further exploring a future relationship with Minthara.
The 'Innocent' Way
Yet, it now appears that an individual has established a supposedly 'innocent' way to incorporate the Drow Paladin into their fold. To achieve Minthara’s Druid Cove objective without directly inciting violence, players can simply steal the idol as instructed, then retreat, allowing the rest of the groups to fight amongst themselves. This way, players obtain the credit and Minthara joins their party. The actual bloodshed, though, is completed by others.
Players’ Reactions
Most players, however, do not view this alternative way of recruiting Minthara as morally superior to the usual route. Jocular comments such as 'Oh thank god. Desecrating cultural artifacts and framing children is much more my speed' have circulated around the gaming community. Other players have pointed out the negative consequences of several characters ending up dead, and one individual even stated that this workaround is more morally ambiguous: 'This method has you pretending not to be evil even though you very much still are.'
The Price of Inclusion
Regardless of how Minthara joins the team, previously recruited companions such as Wyll and Karlach will leave the group. The choice remains with the players to decide just how much Minthara's inclusion is worth in the long run.
